Abstract

When we restore the ethetics and function of the partially edentulous patient with removable partial denture, the adequate retention is the one of the important factors that determine the success of removable partial dentures. We used the ¢¥Rapid flex system¢¥ in these presented cases to obtain the proper retention which we want. Through the literature reviews and the case analvsis, the following results were obtained.
1. Even if the curved approach arm of the RPI was designed to avoid the high buccal frenum, the adequate retention could be obtained, as we knew the increased length of the clasp, by using Rapid flex system.
2. The laboratory and chair time was shortened because the time, wasted on adjustment and grinding to control the retention, was reduced.
3. The amount of retention, which the entire RPD needed, could be controled according to the condition of abutment teeth and supporting tissue as the amount of the retention of each clasp were predictable
4. In circumferential clasp design, only its apical 1/3 is placed in the undercut, and therefore the unfavorable stress and deformation of clasp is reduced.
